The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art
in Porto dedicates an exhibition to Robert Mapplethorpe. This exhibition, curated by João Ribas, Director of the Museum, will be open from 20 September.
The exhibition with 179 works belonging to the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation ranges from his first collages and photographs, which served as experience to develop a technique that transformed photography into art, to his latest and most controversial creations.
With a very intense and personal style, Mapplethorpe raised the issues of gender, sexuality and race in a not very prone context.
The exhibition will be open to the public until 6 January 2019.
